Students Dive into the Future at Tenby SEH STEM Day

What does it look like when students lead learning, explore real-world problems, and turn curiosity into action? At Tenby International School Setia EcoHill (Tenby SEH), it looks like STEM Day 2025—a student-powered showcase of AI, innovation, and sustainability.

Held on 8–9 April 2025, the event brought together over 1,000 students from across Selangor in a vibrant learning experience themed “Stemming Into the Future.” With support from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), the University of Nottingham Malaysia (UNM), and the Hulu Langat District Education Office, this two-day event celebrated what happens when young minds take the lead.

Tenby SEH students designed, built and presented innovations that showed how STEM can drive positive change. A standout project was the AI-powered Talking Plant, created by student STEM Ambassadors in collaboration with UNM’s School of Computer Science. By combining sensors, Raspberry Pi technology and smart coding, the students gave plants a ‘voice’—turning sustainability into an interactive learning journey that captured the imagination of peers and guests alike.

STEM Day wasn't just a showcase—it was an invitation to explore. Students stepped into immersive experiences such as the AI Escape Room and the Plant Hunt Challenge, sparking problem-solving, collaboration and curiosity. Industry experts from ChumRun Digital led hands-on workshops on artificial intelligence, while interactive booths by MOSTI agencies like Planetarium Negara and Nuclear Malaysia connected science with space, energy and daily life. Even health science had a place, with Yakult Malaysia linking biology to wellbeing through wellness talks and sponsored refreshments.

Students engaged not only as learners but as leaders, hosting peers, explaining exhibits, and asking the big questions. UNM faculty ran workshops in biosciences, engineering, psychology and computing—giving students a real taste of university-level thinking and application. From engineering logic to environmental action, students experienced how ideas turn into impact.

STEM Day 2025 showed what happens when students are trusted to explore boldly, supported by expert guidance and real-world relevance. It’s a model of the Learning.First™ approach—where learning is student-led, purpose-driven, and connected to the world outside the classroom.

“At Tenby SEH, students don’t just learn—they lead, collaborate and grow,” says the school’s leadership. “Events like STEM Day reflect our belief that every student can become an innovator, a problem-solver, a confident thinker ready to shape what’s next.”

As part of the International Schools Partnership, Tenby SEH offers International curriculum, within a future-focused environment. But more than that, it offers opportunities like this—where students take ownership of their learning, explore meaningful challenges, and share their voices with the world.
