Embracing the good struggle
A key concept in our methodology is the idea of the ‘good struggle.’ We define this as the process of learning that is challenging yet rewarding, where students feel a sense of progress and achievement.
At ISP we’ve developed our own shared learning language to support conversations, using simple terms to describe the learning journey. For example, we talk about ‘treading water’ when a student is not experiencing progress, or ‘drowning’ when they feel overwhelmed and lost in their learning. These relatable terms make it easier for students, teachers, and parents to have meaningful discussions about learning and progress.
Interpersonal skills
Interpersonal skills are the key to building strong relationships and working effectively with others. By developing their communication, empathy, and teamwork abilities, students learn to collaborate, resolve conflicts, and build consensus. These skills are essential for success in both personal and professional life, enabling them to navigate diverse social situations and forge meaningful connections.
