The Power of Clothing – Tenby x Uniqlo Event

From donating jackets to crafting with recycled fabric, our students saw how something as simple as clothing can make a real difference in someone’s life.

You’ve probably got something from this brand in your wardrobe—but did you know how far those clothes can go in helping people around the world?

Our National Secondary students took part in a unique event called “The Power of Clothing”, where they learned how something as simple as clothes can do more than keep us warm—they can also bring comfort, confidence, and hope to people going through hard times.

First up: Uniqlo Malaysia. They shared how the brand supports people in need through clothing donations and sustainability projects. Students discovered that clothes are more than just fashion—they are life-changers.

Then came a moving session with UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees) and MRA(Malaysian Relief Agency), where we heard about the lives of refugees in Malaysia—why they’ve had to leave their homes, the challenges they face, and how organisations are stepping up to help. During the Q&A, one student bravely asked:

“You guys go to places where there’s war, right? Aren’t you guys afraid?”

The MRA representative responded with confidence and passion. Yes, the risks are real, but the purpose behind their work is bigger than fear. It was a powerful reminder of the courage and dedication behind humanitarian work.

To wrap up the event, students took part in a fun, hands-on workshop with PJKSM (Persatuan Jurukraf Selangor dan Melaka), creating owl keychains from recycled fabric. It was a chance to get creative while learning about sustainability and reusing materials with purpose.

This event was an amazing platform for students to learn about real issues and how small actions, like donating a jacket or reusing fabric, can ripple out into something much greater.
