International Primary School

Age 5-11

At our International School in Johor Bahru, your child benefits from the best of both worlds. The National Curriculum for England builds a strong academic foundation, while the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) develops global perspectives and essential life skills. Together, they create a learning journey that prepares students to thrive in school and beyond.

  • Learn with specialist teachers in art, music, PE, languages and computing

  • Communicate confidently in English, while developing language skills in Mandarin and Bahasa Malaysia

  • Parents stay connected through the Class Dojo app, with photos and messages

Our international primary curriculum

Your child's journey is carefully mapped out through two essential stages - the exploratory and fun-filled Year 1 and Year 2 (Key Stage 1) followed by the engaging and growth-focused Year 3 to 6 (Key Stage 2). They'll be guided by highly-qualified teachers, dedicated to nurturing the unique potential in each child.

English

Exploring worlds through words

We inspire a love for reading, writing and storytelling. Students develop skills in reading comprehension, creative writing, grammar and vocabulary. Aswell as using innovative learning programmes such as Talk 4 Writing program, read, Write Inc and English Power Hour, children have daily phonics sessions, children develop strong reading, writing, and communication skills. This approach encourages creativity by using storytelling and interactive activities to build confidence in literacy.

The Discovery approach

Discover, learn and grow

Throughout our International Primary Curriculum (IPC) we integrate our Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) approach, engaging students in hands-on, thematic learning. This approach encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and problem-solving across subjects.

Mathematics

Developing analytical minds

Our enhanced lessons encourage logical thinking and problem-solving. Learners study arithmetic, geometry and statistics, later exploring algebra and solving equations. Practical activities build a solid foundation for future learning. The White Rose Maths syllabus, based on the same principles as Singapore Maths, offers a structured way to develop fluency, reasoning, and problem-solving. Lessons incorporate practical tools and interactive activities, making mathematical concepts easy to understand and enjoyable.

Science

Discovering the wonders of science

Learners study biology, chemistry and physics through hands-on experiments. They learn about living organisms, materials, forces and energy. Science classes ignite curiosity and encourage exploration. White Rose Science helps students explore the natural world through hands-on experiments and inquiry-based learning. The curriculum promotes curiosity, encouraging children to think like young scientists.

Computing

Embracing future technology

We learn basic coding, digital literacy, internet safety and use the latest software. Projects enhance problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, preparing us for an ever-evolving digital world. Students develop digital literacy and coding skills using Byte-Ed, while VEX Robotics introduces them to robotics and programming through engaging, interactive activities. These programs help students build essential skills for the future.

Music

Tuning into the rhythm

Students immerse themselves in the joy of music by learning an instrument, singing, and participating in performances. These activities foster creativity, self-expression, and teamwork. Students can also learn to play musical instruments with professional instructors during co-curricular activities.

PSHE

Growing together

Personal, Social & Health Education helps us understand and manage our emotions, build healthy relationships and develop social skills. We learn about mental health, physical wellbeing and our roles in the community. We also open students' eyes to the jobs of people who help us and the possibilities of the world of work.

Physical Education (PE)

Fitness first

Physical Education classes focus on building physical fitness, teamwork, and coordination. Students participate in various sports and physical activities, promoting a healthy and active lifestyle. They also learn to swim – essential for water safety and a fun-filled activity.

Languages

Multilingualism

Our core language for learning and communication is English. Students learn a second global language – Mandarin Chinese – and Malay. We encourage students to continue to use their home language and are proud to be a multilingual campus where diverse nationalities, cultures and languages are equally respected.

Co-curricular and clubs

Our international primary school offers a rich array of opportunities to get curious and learn new skills. With more than 100 clubs each week, there’s something for every child. Visit our Sport page.

Student leadership opportunities

At our Tenby SEG, our child leadership roles encourage students to take responsibility, grow confidence and develop communication skills.

  • Student council - really active in school life
  • Microsoft ambassadors
  • Play leaders - supervise and help in playground
  • House captains .

House communities

Belonging to a house is a big part of life at SEG. From their first day, every student becomes part of Griffin, Unicorn, Dragon, or Phoenix, earning points for their house through excellent effort, behaviour, and achievements. Events like Sports Week bring the whole school together, combining friendly competition with plenty of fun and teamwork.

Learning beyond the campus

Students explore the world through day trips and residential camps, where they tackle new challenges, develop independence, and connect with their peers in unforgettable ways. Whether visiting fascinating places or camping under the stars, these experiences make learning come alive.

Transition from Primary to Secondary

Starting in Year 5, we make moving to Secondary easy with our Transition Programme. Students meet new teachers, explore new subjects, and build connections long before they start. Parents are part of the journey too, with surveys, workshops, and meet-the-teacher events designed to answer every question and support every step.
