University Preparation

Preparing for university can be an exciting and equally daunting phase. After a student’s time at school comes to a close, the challenges of the next stage of their education will begin to sink in. A student that is well prepared will walk through the door of his or her university, brimming with confidence and believing the sky’s the limit.

One of the pillars of our Amazing Learning philosophy is to prepare and condition students to adapt to life in universities. We encourage them to develop critical thinking skills, motivate them to push beyond their perceived limitations and make progress via embracing the good struggle. At the end of day, these factors will have an impact on how they fare upon setting foot into the wider world.

Smaller Classes, Dedicated Support

At Tenby International School Tropicana Aman, Sixth Form students receive the personal guidance and support they need to perform to their full potential in their university applications.

In addition to a dedicated Head of Sixth Form, who handles all matters pertaining to this stage of education, and a University and Careers guidance counsellor who assists with university applications and any personal issues encountered by the students, small class sizes ensure that teachers are able to mentor students on a one-on-one basis, working through any stumbling blocks they may face while providing further reading and guidance to those who excel.

We also have a detailed and thorough preparation process for students applying to universities across the globe and in Malaysia.  This includes visiting universities and making sure personal statements and applications provide our students with the best chance of attending their chosen institution.

Developing The Person, Not Just The Student

When a student reaches the Sixth Form, he or she is just steps away from adulthood. We believe that this is the ideal time to entrust them with greater responsibilities and accountability in the choices they make, be it academic, professional or personal. Lest we forget that expectations at universities are at another level altogether.

The Sixth Form’s A Level syllabus gives our students freedom to opt for their preferred subjects which are in line with their career choices. Our dedicated teachers are ever present to help our students every step of the way in the selection process.

The stronger support system of the small class concept helps students develop stronger and adult-minded relationships with their classmates and teachers. This will aid the development of interpersonal and soft skills, which are significant requirements to succeed in the working world.

In short, this approach moves students away from the top-down method of earlier stages and helps mould a well-rounded individual, conditioned to thrive both academically and socially when in university.

Amazing Learning, For Life

Greek writer and philosopher Plutarch once said, “The mind is not a vessel to be filled but a fire to be kindled.” Our Amazing Learning philosophy aims to kindle the fire of self-belief in our students through cultivation of perseverance and determination to achieve anything they set their minds on.

Our students are exposed to repeated experiences that hardwire getting better through good struggle. An important message that we impart to our students is that good things might seem tough to attain but through hard and smart work, goals can be achieved and the satisfaction that follows far outweighs the difficulties of getting there.

Nowhere is this philosophy more valuable than in Sixth Form, where independence and self-motivation can lead to outstanding results and trigger valuable lifelong habits.
