International Schools Partnership

Tenby Schools Penang is extremely pleased to be part of International Schools Partnership (ISP), a dynamic network of 80 schools in 22 different countries committed to an organisational learning culture of ‘getting better’.

Vision, Purpose and Principles

To be the leading international schools group of quality and scale, with schools of choice recognised across local communities and the global education sector for amazing learning, ambition and growth.

The International Schools Partnership has a clear purpose. We are a focused, growing and financially secure group of schools. All our schools:

  • Help children and students learn to levels that amaze them.
  • Inspire children and students to be successful now and equip them to be successful later.
  • Are truly international, working in partnerships within and across regions, cultures and languages.
  • Aim to be the first choice for children, students and their families, wherever we are.

Our Principles emphasise and underpin how we do what we do.

Begin with our children and students;
Our children and students are at the heart of our business. Simply, their success is our success.

Treat everyone with care and respect;
We look after one another, embrace similarities and differences and promote the well-being of each other.

Operate effectively;
We focus relentlessly on the things that are most important and will make the most difference.

Are financially responsible;
We make financial choices carefully based on the needs of the children, students and our schools.

Learn continuously;
Getting better is what drives us.

Global Network

There are many advantages of being part of a truly international school group. With ISP, we enjoy easy access to a global network of passionate educators and child education experts. This enables us to absorb the best ideas from around the world and implement them for the direct benefit of our students.  Current ISP student programmes include: ISP Buddy Exchange Programme, ISP Model United Nations and ISP International Summer Camp.

The ISP Difference

The ISP Difference

As part of ISP, we are able to provide our students with opportunities for memorable international and cultural learning experiences across our global network. These special learning and exchange programmes enable students to develop their language and communication skills, share good practices, and create long-term friendships across the world, all in a safe and secure environment.

There are currently three programmes up and running for students to enjoy:

ISP Buddy Exchange Programme

We launched the ISP Buddy Exchange Programme (BEP) in autumn 2018 with the first student exchanges taking place from February 2019. The programme has been a huge success and returns this year, with new student exchanges taking place from January and June.

Some of the words used by our students to describe their experience of the programme include: Life-changing, Educational, Unique, Unforgettable, Enjoyable and Amazing!

The BEP enables reciprocal learning exchanges between ISP schools for a period of one month for students from 14 – 17 years of age. It gives our students the unique opportunity to connect with other people, other cultures and other countries and provide another truly collaborative learning experience.

The programme offers our students amazing and diverse learning opportunities within a safe and secure environment. Buddy exchange students gain real-world learning skills and greater independence. They plan and prepare for a trip across the world, live in a new home with a new, supportive family, have the chance to thrive in a new learning environment with projects and assignments aimed at the student’s level of learning and understanding and they receive daily support and guidance from colleagues and other students in their new school. Students enjoy a memorable international and cultural learning experience to develop their language skills, communicate ideas in a different way, share good practice and create long-term friendships across the world.

If you are a parent or student at an ISP school who would like to find out more or apply to be part of the ISP Buddy Exchange Programme, please contact your school’s Admissions Office.

ISP Model United Nations

The ISP Model United Nations (ISP MUN) is a truly international and multicultural event where our students come together from around the world to experience an educational simulation of a real UN conference.  This activity invites the school community to join a real-life committee representing a country’s delegation. The task is to debate with other countries to solve an international issue in a diplomatic manner following the ideals from the Charter of the United Nations. Student delegates learn about diplomacy, international relations, research techniques, public speaking, debating, compromise, and writing skills in addition to improving their critical thinking, teamwork and leadership abilities.

Delegates are placed in committees and assigned countries, and occasionally are asked to represent specific organisations or political figures. They are presented with their assignments in advance, along with a topic or topics for their committee to discuss. Delegates carry out research before conferences and formulate positions that they will then debate with fellow delegates in pre-assigned committees, staying true to the actual position of the member country they represent. At the end of a MUN the best performing delegates from each committee, as well as delegations, are usually recognised with trophies and/or awards.

ISP MUN conferences typically last for just over a week and are hosted by a different ISP school each year; making it a valuable international and cultural experience for our students to take with them into their future. Beyond the debates it is a unique learning opportunity for our students to discover more about the diversity of the host country, meet people from different countries and cultures make connections from around the world and foster long term friendships. .

The first ISP MUN entitled ‘Together we can make a difference’ was hosted at Laude The Lady Elizabeth School in Spain. The delegates discussed and debated topics including the Denuclearization of DPRK and Solving the economic and political crisis in Venezuela.

The second annual ISP MUN entitled ‘Solving Issues – Building the Future’ took place at St. Jude School in Costa Rica in April 2019. Around 90 students aged 15-18 years old from 11 ISP schools in Costa Rica, Chile, Mexico and Spain took part in a memorable international opportunity.

During the debates at this year’s ISP MUN, delegates were passionate about making the world a better place and came together to propose solutions to some of the world’s most pressing problems. They discussed and debated topics including the misuse of personal information and the limits of privacy, ensuring the protection of children seeking asylum and transitioning to sustainable energy: meeting growing energy demands.

ISP International Summer Camp

Our first ISP International Summer Camp launched in summer 2019 for our students aged 12–14 years at Kehoe-France near New Orleans in the USA. The camp will be returning in the summer of 2020.

The camp provides the opportunity for our students to:

  • meet other ISP students from all over the world
  • enjoy a breadth of diverse and exciting experiences in a safe and supportive environment
  • experience a taste of the unique and influential culture in New Orleans
  • learn more about American history and the significance the world’s many cultures have had on influencing American culture, and how the US culture influences our world today.

Kehoe-France School joined ISP in October 2017 and has two campuses offering an education to children and students from nursery through to Grade 7. The school first established a summer camp in 1949 and has continued to operate these camps for nearly 70 years, promoting outstanding leadership and an enrichment of experiences so campers understand themselves, others, and the world they live in.

Along with our other international programmes, the ISP International Summer Camp is an experience that offers students amazing and diverse learning opportunities, whilst having fun and making new friends. It offers a variety of learning-focused, team building and outdoor activities.

Some examples of the exciting opportunities available at the summer camp will include: exploring the vibrant music scene of New Orleans; cooking and sampling the famous local cuisine; taking part in academic challenges; leadership development activities and sports competitions; experiencing the great American outdoors; and building long-term friendships with students in the USA and from around the world.

If you are a parent or student at an ISP school and would like to find out more about the ISP International Summer Camp for summer 2020, please contact your school Admissions Office from November 2019.

ISP is focused on getting the learning culture right in all its schools, and regularly provides expertise to develop better learning opportunities for students. For us, this involves regular evaluations of our schools’ and students’ learning environment – and their academic performance – in order to see how we can continually get better. This provides us with a rich bank of quantitative and qualitative evidence that we can use to guide and develop our continual improvement programme.

All of this helps us to help our students get better and learn to levels that amaze them.

Amazing Learning

Amazing Learning

Amazing Learning happens when our students surprise themselves with the levels of learning they have achieved. This may not happen every day but it should happen often enough that our students can take that memory of excelling beyond themselves into their adult lives.

Tenby Schools is working closely with ISP to implement a unique programme which ensures that our classrooms are genuinely engaging and focused on helping children and students get better all the time. We want our students to leave us knowing that when they focus on a goal and apply themselves diligently, they can attain amazing levels.
