At Sekolah Sri Tenby Penang, primary education follows the Malaysian National Primary School Standard Curriculum (KSSR) for students aged 7 to 12 (Standard 1 to 6). Our students explore a wide range of subjects aimed at developing well-rounded, critical thinkers. With our Learning.Firstâ„¢ approach, we focus on personalised learning that encourages students to become independent and proactive learners. We prepare them for their first major assessment, at the end of Standard 6, ensuring a strong foundation for future success.
Mathematics builds foundational skills essential for developing problem-solving abilities, logical thinking, and arithmetic fluency. Through activities like puzzles and word problems, students learn to think critically and apply concepts in everyday situations. Mathematics is taught in English, focusing on core topics such as numbers, geometry, measurements, and data analysis to prepare students for more advanced concepts in later years.
Science fosters a sense of curiosity and encourages students to explore the wonders of the natural world. It covers fundamental concepts in biology, chemistry, and physics, with a hands-on approach that includes experiments and projects. Science lessons help students develop observational and analytical skills while learning how scientific principles apply to real-life situations. This subject is taught in English to ensure students are well-prepared for international academic standards.
Design and Technology inspire students to think creatively and develop practical skills. This subject involves activities such as crafting, building models, and working with simple materials to solve design challenges. Through D&T, students learn about the design process, problem-solving, and teamwork, fostering innovation from a young age.
Arts Education nurtures self-expression through visual arts and music. Students engage in drawing, painting, and sculpture, developing fine motor skills and creativity. Music lessons introduce students to rhythm, instruments, and composition, encouraging them to explore different forms of artistic expression. This subject plays a vital role in building confidence and emotional intelligence.
Moral Education focuses on developing students' character by teaching values such as honesty, respect, empathy, and good citizenship. Through discussions, role-play, and reflective activities, students learn about ethical decision-making, personal responsibility, and how to contribute positively to their community.
Physical and Health Education emphasizes the importance of physical fitness and healthy living. Students participate in various sports and physical activities that promote teamwork, coordination, and discipline. They also learn about nutrition, hygiene, and mental well-being, building a foundation for a healthy lifestyle.
Information and Communication Technology
ICT introduces students to the basics of computing, including coding, internet safety, and digital literacy. Students learn to use word processors, spreadsheets, and multimedia tools, preparing them for the increasingly digital world. Activities like programming simple games or using robotics kits foster problem-solving and computational thinking.Â
For Muslim students, Islamic Education provides a deep understanding of Islamic teachings, values, and practices. It covers topics such as Quranic studies, prayer (solat), and moral conduct. This subject helps students strengthen their spiritual development and instill values that guide them in daily life.Â
Â
This subject plays a crucial role in helping students understand the country’s history, cultural heritage, and national identity. It covers significant events from Malaysia’s past, key historical figures, and the formation of the nation. Students also learn about global history, fostering a broader perspective on the world.
Mastery of Bahasa Malaysia is essential, as it is the national language and a core subject in all Malaysian schools. Students develop proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension. This subject also emphasizes the importance of communication skills and understanding local culture and traditions.
With Malaysia’s multicultural landscape, Mandarin is often offered as a language option. This is an opportunity to gain proficiency in one of the most widely spoken languages globally, giving students an edge in both local and international communication and business.Â
Learning English is a cornerstone of education in Malaysia. Students focus on developing fluency in reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension to prepare for international exams and future academic or professional opportunities. English lessons often include literature studies and exposure to global perspectives.Â
