Malaysian National Curriculum
Sekolah Sri Tenby Penang combines the best of the Malaysian National Curriculum with a global perspective and outlook, preparing Malaysian students for local and global success in their career pathway of choice.
In line with the Tenby Schools’ ethos of blending local and international approaches to education, our students benefit from a distinctive school experience and culture that grounds them in the core subjects of the national curriculum while exposing them to an international student body in an environment where the English is the primary mode of communication.
Furthermore, we are a certified Dual Language Programme school, meaning that we are one of a select group of National-type schools in Malaysia to offer Mathematics and Science subjects in both Bahasa Melayu and English.
Primary
An education at Sekolah Sri Tenby Penang begins in the Primary years, where students study the Malaysian National Primary School Standard Curriculum, or Kurikulum Standard Sekolah Rendah (KSSR), from Standard 1 to Standard 6 (ages 7-12). During the Primary years, emphasis is placed on providing students with a broad base of learning across major subject groups, with the aim of nurturing well-rounded thinkers who can succeed in their upper primary assessment test held at the completion of Standard 4, 5 and 6 – the Upper Primary School Year End Assessment Test (Ujian Akhir Sesi Akademik or UASA).
Secondary
The Secondary curriculum then takes things a step further, allowing students aged 13 to 17 room for greater specialisation as they begin to discover what they wish to pursue as a career choice. At this stage, a rigorous academic approach is complemented by greater participation in school activities and in leadership positions, as we aim to fashion responsible, conscientious young adults ready to take on the world.
Students in Secondary work towards the year-end assessments and one crucial examination: the Lower Secondary Year End Assessment Test (Ujian Akhir Sesi Akademik or UASA) in Form 1, Form 2 and Form 3 and the Malaysian Certificate of Education (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia or SPM) in Form 5.
Learning Beyond The Classroom
A key reason for our success of Sekolah Sri Tenby Penang is the opportunity provided to students to supplement traditional, in-class learning with a well-rounded, holistic education that goes beyond the classroom.
In all year groups, co-curricular activities are mandatory as they provide the opportunity for students to expand their horizons beyond academics while engaging with the rest of the school community, including students from Tenby International School. Meanwhile, participation in other after school activities such as personal development camps, sports and music teams, school trips and more help to fortify passions and strengthen bonds while forging leadership skills by encouraging responsible decision making and problem solving.
Our educators are always on the lookout for new and innovative ways to engage and inspire our students while implementing the Tenby Schools philosophy of Amazing Learning. Amazing Learning is about developing the whole student – academically, socially, emotionally and more – through repeated experiences that hardwire getting better through good struggle. And, with the ideal blend of an international outlook allied with a rich grounding in the local educational curriculum, we are positioned to bring this philosophy to life for all students of Sekolah Sri Tenby Penang.
